Information from Physicians’ Meeting with Sen. Kay Hagan

Met with Senator Hagan and 200 or so physicians last night in High Point. She was exceedingly political, never answering questions with straight answers, even refusing to answer yes or no questions. I feel like the meeting would have been just as productive had the Senator stayed home and sent a homeless man dressed in her place. She seemed unable to comprehend or understand the very basics of how the health care system works and she seems to have minimal knowledge into how the current system is wrong. I went there with an open mind about her and left feeling exceedingly disappointed.
This is very distressing news indeed, but not wholly unexpected. Sen. Hagan is the junior senator in NC, so I expect she’s going to tow the party line despite the quality of the legislation being proposed. It really bothers me that she’s hearing from physicians and not taking their input into account. These are the folks Congress should be listening to – not non-medical interest groups, unions, lobbyists, and the like. Who better knows than the doctors themselves?
What can we do?
We need to make calls this next week and let her know that her constituents DO NOT SUPPORT this egregious monster of a bill in the House and will not support a public option bill in the Senate either. She may have 5.5 years left on her term, but like the elephant that is the GOP mascot, we won’t forget how she voted when November of 2013 rolls around. If we’re still having elections, that is. I urge you to call, email and/or fax. Prayer works too
